The Nine Best Beaches in Phuket

If you want a dream vacation, consider Phuket! Delicious food, beautiful beaches, romantic majestic landscapes, lots of adventure… Phuket has everything you’re looking for! Phuket is the largest of the Thai Islands and is extremely popular among tourists from all over the world. Its popularity is justified. It’s one of the best options for beach lovers with its beaches with white sand and clean sea.

One thing you can be sure of when coming to Phuket: You’ll never be bored here! This place appeals to all kinds of holidaymakers. While it has plenty of adventure activities for those who love adventure, it has secluded beaches for those who want to relax. For luxury lovers, also there are many options.

Any time of the year is nice to visit this place. However, it’s wise to be mindful of when you’re coming for a beach vacation. Since there are monsoons here, the sea can be choppy. Therefore, the best times to come to Phuket for a beach vacation are between November and May.

Without further ado, let’s start our list of Phuket’s most beautiful beaches…

1. Kata Beach (including Kata Noi and Kata Yai)

Kata Beach’s popularity is increasing day by day, and it ranks first on our list. This place is often preferred by families. Kata Beach is just so amazing… Soft sand, calm and clear water, a warm sun, and tree shadows for those who don’t like the sun… Sunset is also wonderful here. Make sure to take photos!

One of the reasons why this place is preferred especially by families is that it’s a relatively quiet place. Going to Kata Yai is one of the most popular activities to do in Phuket. This place is very ideal for swimming. Surfing and snorkeling are also available. Also, these activities are safe here as the sea is calm. Those who want a little more silence can go to Kata Noi and enjoy their vacation in luxury hotels.

Tip

If you set your arrival date correctly, your holiday will be more enjoyable. If you’re with small children, this place is more suitable from December to April. Many families with children come at this time. On the other hand, between May and November, the waves of the Andaman Sea become the most suitable for surfing. For this reason, those who want to surf prefer to come during these months.

2. Freedom Beach

With its easy access, you can find yourself at Freedom Beach in an instant. This place is like a hidden gem and one of the quiet beaches. Untouched sand, a clear sea… It’s not very popular, so it offers an ideal holiday for those seeking silence. If you choose this place, you’ll return home rested, no doubt. The only thing that can disturb the peace is the occasional loud noise of boats.

If someone says no to silence, let’s take those who say they want to adventure a little further north of the beach. You can climb the stairs here. At the end of these stairs, you come across a wonderful view. When you go south, you can eat incredibly delicious food. There are also sports activities that you can play on the beach, such as volleyball.

Tip

Access to Freedom Beach is easy. You can reach it by boat if your budget allows, or by walking for a long time from Patong Beach. Shops and restaurants can be found on the hill road.

3. Paradise Beach

As the name suggests, this place is heaven! The fact that it’s a small sweet beach adds to the beauty of this place. Beach lovers will love it here. It has soft sand. The sea is pale blue and clean. This place will offer you everything you’re looking for. Partying at night, sports in the morning! Walking here is also enjoyable. You’ll see many beautiful landscapes on the walking path.

This place is located a 10-minute walk from Patong Beach, which is quite crowded. Therefore, if you’re in Patong Beach and you’re overwhelmed by the crowd, you can choose this place to breathe. For those who love snorkeling, this place is truly paradise. Paradise Beach Club at night is awesome. You can find almost all kinds of restaurants here. It could be fast food or healthy food. Full moon party at night!

Tip

If you attend the parties here, you’ll have a lot of fun. Moon parties are great, including beach barbecues, great music, and fire shows. Also, it’ll be good for you to wear water shoes, as the ocean floor is covered with sharp cliffs and pieces of coral.

4. Ao Sane Beach

If you want to cool off while sitting on the hot beach, this beach surrounded by giant palm trees will provide shade: Ao Sane Beach! The sand here is harder compared to other beaches in Phuket, but it’s still soft so we don’t think you’ll notice much. Unfortunately, another disadvantage is that it’s very rocky, so it’s not suitable to play games such as volleyball on the beach.

We’ve said all this just to let you know before you go, otherwise, these things certainly don’t make this beach bad. On the contrary, it’s a great beach. For example, it’s one of the best spots in Phuket for snorkeling. Transportation is also easy. You can reach nearby places here in a short time by car or on foot. Ao Sane Beach between the cliffs is an ideal place to find peace. No boat noises here…

Tip

There are no places on this beach where you can rent equipment such as beach chairs or snorkels. Therefore, you need to bring them with you.

5. Patong Beach

We’ve mentioned Patong Beach many times so far, this is the longest beach in Phuket. Now, it’s time to talk about it. This beach is incredibly busy! Almost all of Phuket’s nightlife and beach lovers gather here. No worries about getting bored because this place is very lively both during the day and at night. You’ll find everything you’re looking for both on the beach and in the hotels.

It’s such a lively place that anything seems possible here. We can say that this is Phuket’s most famous beach. Frankly, we don’t recommend this beach to those seeking tranquility. This place is for those looking for action, for those looking for nightlife… There are also plenty of shopping and dining options. If you’re going to travel alone, you’ll not be alone on the beach. You can come back home with many friends! So, this place is often preferred by those who travel alone.

Tip

Phuket Town, which is a 30-minute drive from the beach, is worth a visit. It would be a tour mixed with culture because there are many historical buildings here. Also, you can find souvenirs. However, you should know that Phuket Beach is very crowded, and those seeking tranquility think about twice choosing this place. When you’re involved in nightlife, you need to be careful against gangs.

6. Bangtao Beach

Bangtao Beach is one of Phuket’s longest coastal beaches. This place is almost four miles long. The location is quite good because it’s located between the airport and Patong Beach. Bangtao Beach appeals more to those looking for luxury. Although it’s luxurious, it’s quiet and wide. At the same time, it’s a quiet beach. Therefore, this is a place where those in Patong Beach can escape when they feel overwhelmed.

There are beachfront hotels and clubs here. Another advantage of this place is that although it’s a very quiet place, you won’t have any trouble finding something around. There are many shops and restaurants in the surrounding area. The sea is also clean. When you want to escape from luxury, you can take a small walk to Cherng Talay, a very sweet village. Water sports are also very common here. Families with children often prefer this place because there are very nice water sports activities for children.

Tip

In general, you’ll not have any problems in terms of shopping in the region. However, if your holiday coincides with a Friday evening, we recommend you to visit the market set up on Friday evenings.

7. Nai Harn Beach

Do you want to have a beach holiday and get enough of the sea and a historical holiday? It’s Nai Harn! This place offers its visitors a great beach vacation. Along with its beautiful beach and crystal clear sea, the Buddhist temples here also make the holiday richer. Moreover, there are many shopping alternatives on this beach! Whether it’s a souvenir or a refreshing drink!

Besides all that, this place also has a quiet atmosphere. It’s ideal for swimming. But the sea here can be very wavy and dangerous from time to time, so the best times to visit are between November and May. You don’t have to worry while swimming between these periods, you can also snorkel. Lifeguards are always on duty at the beach. Hurry, because this place is getting popular!

Tip

The Buddhist temple in the area is worth visiting. This is a suitable place for a historical trip as well as a beach holiday. We recommend that you bring suitable clothes by including these trips in your holiday plan. After the trip, the amazing food of the roof restaurant should be tried.

8. Surin Beach

A famous beach with celebrities: Surin Beach! This is a one-kilometer-long beach. Stars often come to this beach and stay in luxury hotels in the surrounding area. There are many options here, not just entertainment. The water is clean and the beach clubs are amazing. It’s usually during the high season when it’s the cleanest and snorkeling is frequent. Playing frisbee on the beach is a common activity. Also, you can find peace in the wonderful hot springs of Surin Beach.

There are not many stalls here. However, it’s not very difficult to meet your needs, you’ll find many things you’re looking for in small benches. You can indulge yourself in the restaurants on the beach here, they cook very delicious meals. This place has recently started to change due to some political conflicts, but in our opinion, it is still very beautiful. It can only be said that it’s quieter now.

Tip

The Chedi has great cooking classes. You can join these courses and learn how to cook Thai food. As part of these courses, market trips are also made and training is given to select the freshest ingredients. A course that’ll last a lifetime! The sea is calm in summer, but amateur swimmers should still be careful.

9. Ya Nui Beach

Choose Beach Ya Nui if you like to stay on Phuket’s main island and prefer a calmer beach than Nai Harn Beach and Kamala beach… Ya Nui Beach on Phuket’s west coast, just south of Nai Harn, is the perfect spot to be. Despite the fact that Ya Nui Beach is the smallest beach mentioned in this article and does not appear to be especially appealing, it is one of the most gorgeous sites to go kayaking after sunset.

It has a more serene and relaxing vibe than its bigger twin to the north. The sunset over the majestic Promthep Cape can also be seen from this beach, which is not to be missed.

Tip

You may walk here from Nai Harn beach, which is 2.5 kilometers away. However,  having your own transportation is much simpler. A motorbike will suffice, but make sure it has enough power to navigate the steep, twisting hills. When you’re coming from Laem Phromthep or Nai Harn, be cautious because the route is exceedingly steep and treacherous in the rain.
